ICAC Announces Details for First-Ever Virtual Plenary Meeting in December 2021

After everything we’ve gone through in the past year, it’s more important than ever to search for silver linings in the dark clouds — and that’s exactly that the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) is doing with its annual Plenary Meeting, which will be held free of charge from 6-9 December 2021.

For the first time ever, the ICAC will conduct the event virtually due to the continuing uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic. While that’s unfortunate, the skills that the Secretariat have been acquiring in 2021 will be maximised in coming years by including a virtual component to all future Plenary Meetings.

‘It’s unfortunate that we won’t be able to see our friends and colleagues from around the world in person like we usually do at a Plenary Meeting, but we know that in-person events will resume again soon’, said ICAC Executive Director Kai Hughes. ‘Going forward, we will always aim to have a virtual component to our Plenary Meetings, which will make it easier for more people from around the globe to participate and interact with the ICAC. Meeting via videoconference can’t – and shouldn’t – completely replace in-person meetings, but for those who aren’t able to travel to a Plenary Meeting, the virtual aspect will help keep them engaged with the cotton community. Our challenge is to make these conferences exciting, participatory and great learning experiences that ‘wow’ everyone, including virtual attendees’.
