The 39th Plenary Meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) held in Manila, Philippines in 1980 realized the importance of the exchange of information on production research and decided to establish a Technical Information Section within the Secretariat. The Technical Information Section (TIS) became operational in June of 1982. Dr. Fred Gillham of Australia is the first head of the Technical Information Section. He left the ICAC in 1987 and Mr. Kees Verbeek of the Netherlands replaced him. The section is currently headed by Dr. M. Rafiq Chaudhry since 1991 and brings out a number of publications on a regular basis. Main users of the TIS work are researchers involved in cotton production research activities. The objectives of the TIS are to:
Provide updates on cotton production
research
Gather information pertaining to cotton
research programs and make it available to researchers
Develop lines of communication among
researchers
